The Upperhead Row Multi-Storey Car Park is a multi-level reinforced concrete structure forming a key public parking facility within Huddersfield town centre, accommodating high daily vehicle volumes and providing essential access to surrounding commercial and public areas.
The refurbishment project at Upperhead Row MSCP is now well into the final phase of its original contracted works. The car park has been completely transformed, with new car park floor coatings, new VRS, new internal doors, upgraded lighting to both interior and exterior levels, a revamped fire detection and CCTV system, new payment meters, a refreshed colour scheme to the columns indicating parking levels, and new heated ramp elements to all external ramps.
In addition to these enhancements, CRL has carried out extensive concrete repairs to columns and soffits, re-screeded a third of the car park, and strengthened the existing parapets using Hilti anchor bolts, including both through-bolts and slab-anchored fixings. The entirety of the external parapets has also been repaired and repainted.
CRL is now progressing to the more complex and exciting element of the works: the removal of a section of degraded and damaged parapet located 45ft above ground level on Level 5 of the car park.
This section is positioned on the east elevation above the busy public area of Upperhead Row below. Using extensive temporary works, including scaffolding, falsework, and formwork, CRL will carefully cut out and remove the damaged parapet section and part of the supporting concrete slab. New steel support will then be installed, followed by the re-casting of a new parapet section to match the existing structure.
CRL remains on track for the current handover date of June 2026; however, with a potential additional stairwell refurbishment package currently under consideration, CRL could remain on site until November 2026.
