CRL has been actively engaged at the Breedon Cement Works in Hope Valley, Derbyshire, over the past few years, delivering a variety of challenging projects on behalf of client. Among these, the refurbishment of the Castleton Road Bridge, a 100-year-old structure, stood out for its unique set of challenges. Accessing the bridge safely to carry out essential refurbishment works was critical to restoring it to its former glory.
The project was delivered in three distinct phases over the course of a year. Two phases focused on the roadway, while the third addressed the bridge abutments. Roadway works were executed using MEWPs (Mobile Elevated Work Platforms) and traffic management systems, while scaffolding was employed to access the abutments. For works on the bridge deck, the team utilized trains transporting cement from the plant.
The scope of work included de-vegetation, concrete repairs, high-pressure jet washing, and repainting. Thanks to meticulous planning and execution, each phase was completed on time and within budget. The project received significant positive feedback from the public, who appreciated the care and efficiency demonstrated by the site team.
The client, the bridge owner, expressed their gratitude for the high-quality workmanship, praising CRL for restoring the structure’s appearance and functionality. Congratulations to the entire site team for their hard work and success in delivering this remarkable project!
