Bradwell Nuclear Power Station, located on the Dengie Peninsula in Essex at the mouth of the River Blackwater, is a Magnox-design facility currently undergoing long-term decommissioning. As the first nuclear power station in the UK to enter long-term decommissioned management (in 2019), the site represents a significant milestone in the UK's nuclear legacy. Since the cessation of electricity generation in 2002, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), through its subsidiary Magnox Ltd, has overseen a comprehensive decommissioning process including the removal of all spent fuel by 2005, demolition of the turbine hall in 2011, and clearing of underground waste vaults by 2016. Final clearance and demolition of the remaining reactor buildings are scheduled between 2083 and 2093.
CRL was engaged to undertake critical concrete repair works in Void 1 of the reactor complex, following the identification of defective concrete during structural surveys. Under the leadership of Jaimi Wallin and Adam Drzazga, a dedicated team of five operatives carried out extensive concrete repairs and crack injection to reinforce the integrity of the reactor walls. This operation stands as one of the most technically demanding repairs completed manually on-site.

The project was conducted under stringent safety and regulatory conditions due to the presence of asbestos and residual radiation, classifying the works under C3 control measures. All personnel involved underwent specialized training and were supported by Altrad, who provided continuous atmospheric and radiation monitoring throughout the 11-week project duration.

Despite the logistical and environmental challenges, CRL delivered the works safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality. The success of this phase has not only reinforced the structural stability of critical areas within the facility but has also highlighted CRL's capacity to execute complex nuclear-sector projects under extreme conditions. As a result, CRL has been invited to participate in future phases of the Bradwell decommissioning programme.
Congratulations to all CRL personnel involved for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to safety and excellence throughout this demanding project.

With special thanks to Drini Hazizi, Steve Ling, Laurenc Hazizi and Miri Hoxha for their commitment & hard work throughout this phase of works.
